Office is a place to concentrate and get productive. It is a space where we work, have meetings with clients and negotiate. If your office space is well arranged, you have thought about spacious file cabinets, comfortable desks and chairs - do not forget about art! There are a lot of white walls for sure, aren't there?

Here are my top reasons why art at the office is a must.

1. Art makes employees more productive.

This statement is not a guess, it is scientifically proved. According to Dr Craig Knight from University of Exeter, who has researched working environments for 12 years - happier people are more productive and art is the key to feeling better at work. This is what Dr Knight said in his interview to The Guardian:

"There is a real tendency to opt for sanitised, lean workspaces, designed to encourage staff to just get on with their work and avoid distraction, but if you enrich a space, people feel much happier and work better, a very good way of doing this is by using art."

2. Abstract art inspires and boosts creativity.

Abstraction is a very high form of human thinking, so needless to say, gazing at abstract artwork makes one's brain work. A colourful abstract limited edition print on the office wall might help to disconnect from routine tasks, boost inner genius and come up with a creative solution or an innovative idea.

3. Art may energise and it may calm.

Different organisations may need different art. It all depends on their activities and on the space they are looking to decorate. For example, dentist's waiting room would need something calming, office staff would probably appreciate an energising piece that would help them stay productive through the day and meeting room, where negotiations are held, should have a something communicating peace and calmness.

4. Art connects people.

It is a great conversation starter that will help you to start a dialogue with a new client. Break the ice talking about the art in your office and soon you maybe discussing your common interests. Besides, there is an interesting story behind every artwork, I bet your client would enjoy it more than a typical conversation about the weather.

5. Art strengthens reputation and contributes to company's image.

As I wrote in my very first post- art is our statement, it reflects values and status. The appearance of your office makes an impression on clients, partners and future employees. If you want to impress them at the moment they enter - art is the number one tool. It is not the chairs and desks they will pay attention to.

Many international banks and large businesses invest into art, but it is not just an investment, they are using it to build strong and reputable brands.
